APW - Hampden, John C. Dueber, 21J, 18S, gold-filled OF recase with superb engraving detail to rear including an idyllic home scene, rear shield with initial, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, raised gold jewel settings, gold disk around balance jewel setting, nickel damascene, gilt mvt screws, s#2527372. A rare and attractive high grade watch; this 21 jewel version of the John C. Dueber has a unique appearance among 18 size Hampden production due to its raised gold jewel settings and its distinctive gold disk around its balance jewel setting. All examples of this watch we are aware of fall within two blocks of 100 serial numbers (2527301 to 2527400, and 2527501 to 2527600) which suggests a potential total production of as few as 200 made.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, lever pulls out but setting function does not engage, overhaul needed for this issue, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates, small fine scratches and surface nicks to foot of balance cock, few scattered micro-fine scratches elsewhere, minor oxide to regulator; dial with few scattered outer chapter hls, short fine surface scratch at 10; fine hands, minute is short and has oxide to its spade and tip; case shows hardly any wear, ding to band near 5, few small nicks elsewhere to band, superb engine turning and engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal.
